There are cheap hotel rooms and then there are cheap rooms. I’m not suggesting you book into a fleapit on the wrong side of town, but rather that you get a room in a good hotel and pay less money. Hotels have published rates but hardly anyone will pay this. Some pay less, many pay more. Two people in identical rooms in the same hotel on the same night can be paying widely different prices.
I stay in hotels all over the world and I never pay the asking price for any room. For the first time I am going to reveal my secrets of booking bargain hotel rooms. This is how pros always get the best hotel deals.
- Internet Prices Are Usually The Lowest Prices.
The web is the way to buy discount hotel rooms. It also allows you to shop around and pick the best deal. There are usually expensive and cheap hotels in the same street offering practically identical facilities.
- Look At Specialist Hotel Discount Web Sites NOT The Hotel's Own Site
In 99% per cent of cases, sites such as gtahotels.com and Hotelopia will be cheaper than the firm’s own website.
- Be Flexible With Your Locality.
Arm yourself with a map of the city you are visiting. Central is where everybody wants to be, so regularly most bargains will be had at places a bit further out. But be careful of edge of town locations. London, for instance, is a huge place and you can spend lots of your time (and money) traveling between your cheap hotel and the town centre.
- Request An Upgrade.
When you arrive and check in, quietly ask the receptionist if an upågrade would be possible. If not, maybe free car parking or whatever can be had? You never know... there might be an additional bargain available!
- Be Careful.
Beware of flea-pits. Look at any pictures the site might have – but remember, this will have been submitted by the hotel themselves and may not be absolutely representative. Take a look at the star-rating. I find that three-star covers all my requirements – unless you are on a really tight budget I suggest you do not look at anything less – but always bear in mind that four- and five-star hotels can often be had for about the same rate. Check before you book your cheap hotel rooms. Afterwards will be too late.
