Often misnamed as "Formula 1 Hotel", Hotel Formule 1 is an international chain of budget no-frills hotels run by the French Accor Group. There are over 350 hotels worldwide. Most of them are in France, with the rest scattered around Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Australia, South Africa, Brazil and Japan.
The rooms are described as "pleasant but functional", which means you should not expect any frills. Usually you can expect a double bed, with a "loft-bed: above it and a colour television. Throughout Europe, showers and toilets are communal and advertised as "near the room", which means you usually find one toilet/ shower per floor. Some reviewers have been less than complimentary that these facilities are self-cleaning, though that would be better in our book than not being cleaned at all! In the rest of the world (Japan, Brazil and South Africa), en suite facilities are provided; in Europe we have to make do with a sink in the room.
Self-service Continental-style buffet breakfasts (breads, butter, jam, cereals, fruit, orange drink, coffee or tea) are not included in the room price and cost between €5,00 and £6.50 per person, depending on the location. The rest of the time you have to get food and drink from self-service machines.
In our opinion, Formula 1 Hotel are suitable only for budget travellers who don't expect to spend too much time in the hotel.
