Salisbury Hotel New York

It's hard not to like the Salisbury Hotel New York. Built in 1930, it's conveniently located in midtown Manhattan, just across the street from Carnegie Hall. It's only a short walk to famous Fifth Avenue shopping and a few steps away from Central Park, Radio City Music Hall, the Lincoln Center, Museum of Modern Art and all the Broadway shows.
Built in he Salisbury has 119 standard guest rooms, 81 one bedroom suites and 4 two bedroom suites. But don't be fooled by the name, the Salisbury's standard rooms are far bigger than the typical New York City hotel room. This is because the Salisbury was originally designed to be a suite hotel. I think we can all agree that it's still a "sweet" hotel.
The 'standard room' includes flat screen cable TV, air-conditioning, in-room safes and serving pantries and refrigerators in practically all rooms. There are no restaurants at the hotel – their $4 continental breakfast is the only meal they serve – but you can get take-outs from nearby restaurants via room service: Angelo's, Great American Health Bar, Stage Deli and China Regency.
Our friend Deborah from Boise, Idaho gave us this review:
"My husband, 2 daughters, and I just got home from a 5 night stay at the Salisbury, and would be very happy to return. We are usually very fussy and have never found a New York hotel we've liked. They've either been far too pricey or else rat-holes. The Salisbury came recommended to us as a good basic place to stay. Compared to other places we've stayed at in NYC, our suite was gigantic, spotlessly clean, comfortable beds and a great shower. Staff was helpful, and breakfast was included, all at a reasonable price, especially for a family of four. There are some excellent restaurants near by, Rue 57 was particularly good, and they do a great pizza at Angelo's, two doors down. Carnegie Hall and the famous Russian Tea Room are literally across the street.
"You're within easy walking distance of the theaters, not to mention Central Park and Fifth Avenue. It is an older hotel and the lifts are slow, but everything in the rooms works all right. I'd recommend the Salisbury Hotel to anybody, especially families on a budget who want a little more class.
